Latitude Validator — Check Latitude Is Between −90 and 90
Free latitude validator for KML and map workflows: paste a decimal latitude and confirm it sits between −90 and 90 before it breaks a pin, Circle Generator ring, or Google Earth file. Catch lat/lon swaps early, copy a clean value, and pair with Longitude Validator or Point Validator.
Key features
- Valid range: −90 to 90 (inclusive)
- Rejects blank, text, or out-of-range numbers
- Returns a clean decimal latitude ready to copy
- Use before Point Validator, Destination, or Circle Generator
What Latitude Validator does
It checks that a single latitude value is numeric and within −90…90. Valid results are formatted for copy/paste into Workbench tools and KML workflows — without editing an entire coordinate pair.
Why local SEO and map teams use it
Spreadsheet exports and CRM pins often swap latitude and longitude. A value like 78.3 as “latitude” fails here immediately, so you fix the column order before generating coverage rings or Earth files.
Decimal degrees only
Paste signed decimal degrees (south is negative). Convert DMS or N/S letter formats with the DMS tool first, then validate here.
How to use this tool (best practice)
1) Paste latitude. 2) Validate. 3) Copy the clean decimal. 4) Run Longitude Validator on the other axis, then Point Validator on the pair. Next: Circle Generator or Destination Calculator.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Latitude Validator free?
Yes. It is free on GBP Local Ranker’s KML Workbench at /free-tools/kml-workbench/latitude-validator — no login required for basic use.
What range is valid?
Latitude must be between −90 and 90 inclusive. The North Pole is 90; the South Pole is −90; the equator is 0.
Is 90 valid?
Yes — latitude 90 is the North Pole. −90 is the South Pole.
Is −91 or 91 valid?
No. Latitudes cannot exceed ±90. If you see values near 78–100, you may have pasted longitude into the latitude field.
Does it accept DMS (degrees minutes seconds)?
Not directly. Convert DMS to decimal first with the DMS tool, then paste the decimal latitude here.
What about N/S letters?
Use signed decimals (south is negative), or convert labeled DMS via the DMS tool before validating.
Will it fix swapped lat/lon?
It only validates the number you enter. If longitude was pasted as latitude, correct the field order yourself, then re-validate.
Example Hyderabad latitude?
Try 17.4401 — a common Gachibowli demo latitude used across our Workbench tools.
How does this differ from Point Validator?
Latitude Validator checks one axis. Point Validator checks a full lat,lon pair and can show a map pin.
Where is the full KML Workbench suite?
Open All KML Workbench Tools at /free-tools/kml-workbench for longitude validator, point validator, circle generator, and more.
